Hey!

I spent my 50 minutes writing a friend of mine.  This is my response to one of his emails.

Something that I want you to know is this:

After all is said and done, happiness comes from service of your fellow man. There is a scripture that says, " Y he aqui, os digo estas cosas para que aprendais sabiduria; para que sepais que cuando os hallais al servicio de vuestros semejantes, solo estais al servicio de vuestro Dios."  (I tell you these things so that you may learn wisdom; so that you know that when you are in the service of your fellow men, you are only in the service of your God)

Happiness comes, when we come to recognize that we are children of a loving Heavenly Father.

Do you think about that? That you have a perfect Father who loves you and wants to give you everything that He has? He is the almighty and has everything on this Earth under his control. Your house, your car, your job are absolutely nothing in comparison to what He has and to what He can give you.

You are of royal lineage. Your are a son of a King.

He sent Christ, our older brother, to build this world. We are here on the earth to learn and to grow. He is going to quiz us. He is going to give us little problems and times of difficulty to see if we will trust in Him and do his will. He wants us to stretch, to try hard, and to succeed.

But something vital to understand happiness is that He gave to each of us our agency. (our ability to make our own decisions) He wants to help, he wants you to be happy. But he won’t make your decisions for you. That’s the only thing He won’t touch. If you want to be make good decisions, you will be happy. But likewise, if you make bad decisions you will be miserable.

"Adan cayo para que los hombres existiesen, y existen los hombres para que tengan gozo."  (Adam fell that man might be and men are that they might have joy)

Our purpose in life is to be happy. That’s why we exist.

"Asi pues, los hombres son libres segun la carne; y les son dadas todas las cosas que para ellos son propias. Y son libres para escoger la libertad y la vida eterna, por medio del gran mediador de todos los hombres, o escoger la cautividad y la muerte, segun la cautividad y el poder del diablo; pues el busca que todos los hombres sean miserables como el." (We are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the power of Satan, who wants all men to be miserable like he is).

We can choose to be happy or we can choose to be sad. I think that happiness and sadness and every other feeling that we feel, come as a result of our decisions.

"Y ademas, quisiera que consideraseis el bendito y feliz estado de aquellos que guardan los mandamientos de Dios. Porque he aqui, ellos son bendecidos en todas las cosas, tanto temporales como espirituales; y si continuan fieles hasta el fin, son recibidos en el cielo, para que moren con Dios en un estado de interminable felicidad. Oh recordad, recordad que estas cosas son verdaderas! porque el senor DIos lo ha declarado." (Consider the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God.  They are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual.  If they continue faithful, they are received into heaven to dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness.  Remember that these things are true, because the Lord God has declared them).

Hey, time ran out but there’s a lot more I would like to share with you. STAY TUNED TIL NEXT WEEK!

Love you bro,

Elder Brown
